AND WE'RE BACK

PHOTO: Observer publisher John Murray talks about the art of interviewing

After a week break, participants found themselves back in the downtown office warming up again with interviewing exercises and journal writing. This is what they had to say about being back...

"Today I enjoyed being here and working with everyone in their interviews. I think that I have gotten more use to the interviewing process and really getting involved in it. I’m really looking forward to finally starting to work on our youth paper and working hard in making it worth reading. I feel like there is a lot of positive energy in this working environment and people are really getting motivated which makes me really excited about being here. I feel like we are all willing to be here and do our best in creating the paper. It also helps that we have supportive people backing us up through this whole experience. I hope that I will be able to learn as much as possible during these six weeks."

"It feels great to be back at work! I know that sounds corny, but it’s true. I am excited to start getting stories and interviewing new people. We had our second press conference today and it was even more exciting than the first. It was sad listening to this man talk about his life. Today I got to be the interviewee for the first time and my story was outrageous. I also got to be the interviewer and I had my share of laughs. I have a feeling this job is going to be a life-changing experience."

"Today is my second day on the job and it’s not bad. We practiced interviewing people and I think I’m pretty good at it. I’m better at that than I am at writing stories. I have good ideas but I just don’t know how to get them to make sense on paper. I think that’s the only thing I’m worried about is not being able to sound good on paper."
